HISTORY

.

Les Edmonds was the chief of the Ashcroft Indian Band and was interested in drag racing. Racing had been going on in Kamloops area in the late '70's and early '80's. Les Edmonds brought people together and put forth the plan of our track in 1980. MP Lorne Greenaway was instrumental in getting the ball rolling in Ottawa. Jim Rabbitt was involved with provincial politics. With the help of people such as the Mayor of Cache Creek and the Mayor of Ashcroft and some people of Logan Lake and Highland Valley Copper employees and the Southern Interior Drag Racers Association, the ground was prepared. Tino Casadio was very helpful by donating many hours and equipment to get the grade perfect. Racing began in 1987 with Les Edmonds competing on the track he had the vision to build, he came in second in points after the seven month season was finished. According to Les Edmonds the name of the track is pronounced (iN-clap-cappum). This name is the native name for the Thompson nation that extends from Cache Creek south to just north of Seattle. The track is situated on the site of the Ashcroft/Cache Creek Aero Club's old air strip.
